One down; two to go! The Brazilian Comblain Carbine fixes!

Today was quite productive with one of the Brazilian Comblain Carbine fixes complete. The small retention locking screw for the action was finished off and blued. It’s now in-place and is a perfect fit.

The new replacement screw now complete! (Blue arrow)

The screw was finalised on the lathe and then by hand using a few different grits of sandpaper. The thread was then cut to the proper length (0.20″) and the slot cut with a jewellers saw frame. The whole thing was cleaned thoroughly in preparation for the bluing. This was also my first attempt at bluing a part and the product I used was G96 Liquid Gun Blue. It turned a bright, shiny deep blue colour very quickly. Obviously it doesn’t quite match the patina of a 130 year old carbine but it should change over time and I may look at another treatment type in the future to match more closely. I’ll also use a little blue Loctite on it when the main spring has been done and the whole rifle cleaned. Overall… I’m happy with the result and glad it’s worked out ok.
